Head of AI Software Development

Altio Labs is seeking a technically exceptional Head of AI Software Development to lead the design, integration, and delivery of mission-critical AI-enabled software platforms for wireless, RF, and spectrum operations systems. This is a senior, hands-on leadership role at the forefront of defense-grade AI and software integration, bridging embedded real-time systems with scalable cloud-native analytics.

The ideal candidate has a deep understanding of AI/ML frameworks, embedded systems, and modular software architectures, with a proven record of successfully delivering complex, integrated software across the full technology stack. This role will lead internal teams and coordinate subcontracted software efforts, with direct accountability for design quality, system integration, and mission readiness.

You’ll work cross-functionally with RF engineers, embedded developers, and systems architects to build intelligent systems for signal detection, spectrum control, anomaly detection, and autonomous RF decision-making—leveraging everything from transformer-based foundation models to real-time inference at the edge.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and mentor high-performance internal software teams and guide external subcontractor development efforts.

  • Architect and implement modular software systems for RF signal processing, distributed spectrum operations, and multi-domain system control.

  • Integrate modern AI techniques—such as self-supervised learning, transformer models, federated learning, and reinforcement learning—into real-time and cloud-deployed RF systems.

  • Define and build plugin-driven software frameworks that support adaptive waveform synthesis, dynamic resource management, and AI-based signal characterization.

  • Direct system integration across embedded platforms (e.g., RFSoCs, FPGAs), edge devices, and cloud orchestration layers.

  • Enforce rigorous development practices including CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Docker/Kubernetes), secure coding standards, and hardware-in-the-loop testing.

  • Coordinate design reviews, conduct code audits, and ensure performance, latency, and robustness metrics are achieved.

  • Develop and deliver technical documentation, briefings, and customer presentations that communicate architecture decisions and implementation progress.

Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship required; must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.

  • At least 8 years of professional software development experience, including 3+ years in technical leadership.

  • Expert-level coding ability in Python and C++ across both embedded and cloud-based environments.

  • Strong background in integrating ML/AI models into operational software systems, including model deployment, serving, and optimization (e.g., ONNX, TorchScript, TensorRT).

  • Hands-on experience with modern AI frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, JAX), MLOps tools, and container orchestration.

  • Familiarity with real-time systems, Linux kernel/driver interfaces, and low-latency data pipelines.

  • Experience with software abstraction layers for SDRs, sensor platforms, or distributed communications systems.

  • Demonstrated success managing subcontracted software deliverables and enforcing compliance with interface, performance, and security requirements.

Senior Researcher – AI-Driven Wireless Signal Processing

Altio Labs is seeking a visionary signal processing expert to lead the development of advanced AI-based technologies for national security and defense wireless systems. This position centers on integrating state-of-the-art artificial intelligence—including deep learning, reinforcement learning, and hybrid neuro-symbolic techniques—into real-time wireless signal processing for applications spanning electronic warfare (EW), RF communications, radar, and spectrum operations.

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong track record in technical leadership, research innovation, and program development. This individual will direct the technical roadmap of the wireless systems and networks research lab, with a focus on developing AI-native architectures for real-time signal detection, classification, adaptive waveform synthesis, and RF sensing. They will collaborate across disciplines, identify and capture externally funded R&D efforts, and mentor a team working at the intersection of AI and RF.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and lead research programs in AI-driven RF signal processing, with applications in EW, cognitive radio, and radar.

  • Architect new AI/ML solutions for challenges in detection, classification, demodulation, interference mitigation, and source geolocation.

  • Translate emerging AI models (e.g., transformers, diffusion models, spiking neural nets) to embedded or accelerated RF systems.

  • Serve as principal investigator for DARPA, DoD, and industry-funded research efforts.

  • Guide multi-disciplinary teams and collaborate with internal and external partners across academia, industry, and government.

  • Publish and present thought leadership at technical symposia and government R&D forums.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship required; ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance.

  • Ph.D. (preferred) or equivalent experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or related field.

  • Demonstrated experience leading successful R&D teams and capturing government/industry funding.

  • Deep expertise in software-defined radio (SDR) platforms including GNU Radio, UHD, and embedded SDR architectures (e.g., RFSoCs, FPGAs).

  • Strong background in both classical DSP (Fourier analysis, filtering, adaptive algorithms) and modern AI techniques (deep learning, probabilistic models, graph neural networks).

  • Hands-on experience developing end-to-end RF pipelines using AI for signal intelligence, RF scene analysis, and autonomous spectrum sensing.

  • Excellent communication skills and experience briefing technical content to high-level stakeholders.

Senior Software Architect / AI Systems Developer

Altio Labs is seeking a highly motivated and forward-thinking system architect to lead the development of advanced, AI-enabled software systems for data analytics, real-time decision-making, and autonomous control of RF, network, and sensor platforms. You will shape the technical direction of the software systems division, with a focus on integrating artificial intelligence—especially foundation models, reinforcement learning, and graph-based inference—into scalable, modular control and analytics platforms.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement distributed software systems that embed AI/ML models into real-time data pipelines, system control logic, and user-facing analytics.

  • Architect hybrid AI-classical control frameworks for dynamic wireless networks, cognitive radio, and multi-agent coordination.

  • Lead a cross-functional team of developers and researchers to deliver full-stack AI-native systems, from model training to operational deployment.

  • Develop APIs and scalable interfaces for integrating machine learning models into system-of-systems environments.

  • Interface with external customers (e.g., DoD, DARPA, commercial partners) and present technical outcomes at high-level forums.

Qualifications:

  • U.S. Citizenship required; must be eligible to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance.

  • BS/MS/Ph.D. in Computer Science, Electrical/Computer Engineering, Applied Math, or related discipline.
